Nearly half of the most promising startups in the state call Central Ohio home, according to a new list from VentureOhio.

The organization, which aims to improve access to capital and foster collaboration in the startup community, has released the 2019 edition of its Watchlist. The 50 companies included on the list were selected via a competitive nomination process and selected by a panel of judges consisting of more than 25 venture capitalists, entrepreneurs and technologists.

Of the 50 companies included on the list, 23 call the Columbus area home. The list includes several of the city's fastest-growing and highest-flying startups like Beam Dental and Root Insurance, as well as Oris Intel LLC, which just sold to a California-based competitor.

Another 14 honorees hail from the Cincinnati region, 11 from greater Cleveland, one from Dayton and one from Springboro, which sits between Dayton and Cincinnati.

“With nearly 1,500 jobs created in the past 12 months by these 50 companies, entrepreneurs across the state are attracting top talent to the region and creating high-paying, future-ready jobs for Ohio’s workforce," VentureOhio CEO Falon Donahue said in a press release. "We can’t wait to see what they do next.”

The selected companies will be honored at VentureOhio's annual VentureDinner, Sept. 5 at the Hilton Columbus Downtown. Winners of the Startup of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year and Catalyst of the Year awards will also be announced at that event.
